 The
Hajj

Abstract

The Hajj is an annual pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city for Muslims. This folk group undertakes this pilgrimage as a pattern established by the Muslim Prophet Muhammad, who took this pilgrimage with his followers to cleanse the Kaaba, a structure made of stone, by destroying all pagan idols inside it, devoting this building to God. Because of the Muslim religious ties to this ritual, this folk group is comprised of Muslim adults who are physically and financially capable of completing it and come from all over and have diverse backgrounds. This folk group shares many traditions and special customs.
