The Followers of Islam
Muslims are followers of Islam and worship one, all-knowing God, who is referred to as Allah in Arabic.
Muslims believe there were several prophets sent to teach Allah’s law. Their names were Abraham, Moses, Noah, and Jesus.
Muslims believe that Muhammad was the final prophet.
Allah's words were revealed to the prophet Muhammad through the angel Gabriel
The Qurʾān is the holy text of Islam.
Muslims worship Allah by praying and reciting the Qurʾān.
Muslims believe in the Day of Judgement and life after death.
Muhammad built the first mosque (Muslim place of worship) in Medina, Saudi Arabia.
There are five daily prayers in the Muslim faith:
Fajr (sunrise prayer)
Dhuhr (noon prayer)
Asr (afternoon prayer)
Maghrib (sunset prayer)
Isha (night prayer).
Five Pillars of Islam
1) Shahadah (profession of faith)—There is no god except one God (Allah) and Muhammad is His prophet
2) Salat (prayer)—the five daily prayers are performed facing the direction of Mecca
3) Zakah (alms) –In accordance with Islamic law, Muslims donate a fixed portion of their income to those in need.
4) Sawm (fasting)— During the daylight hours of Ramadan(the ninth month of the Islamic calendar), healthy adult Muslims abstain from food and drink to renew their awareness and gratitude for everything God has provided, including the Qur'an (first revealed during this month). It is also a reminder to help those less fortunate.
5) Hajj (pilgrimage): Muslims make a pilgrimage to Mecca to the Ka'bah at least once in their lifetime.
